Case Study
For a major retail chain, we implemented a parent communication system that allows customers who leave their children in the in-store kids’ center to stay informed and connected while shopping.
Background
It was necessary to replace the existing pager system used to notify parents who leave their children at the kids’ center while shopping. The system allows staff to easily and reliably alert parents in case of an issue with their child or when the allotted playtime has ended. The replacement was required due to the technical obsolescence of the old equipment and the lack of options for maintenance or future upgrades.
Solution
We designed a new system using Android-based devices that replaced the old pagers. In addition, we digitized the process of registering new children and handing them over at the end by replacing paper forms with electronic signatures. We also enabled parents to pre-register their children in advance, helping to avoid queues during check-in.
Challenges
- Limited Wi-Fi coverage in certain areas of the stores
- Budget constraints when selecting mobile devices
- Specific requirements for the minimum size of the devices used
- Increased security requirements due to client devices accessing protected resources
- Sufficient battery life to support a full customer service cycle
Effects
- Improved user experience
- Optimized child check-in and check-out process
- Ability to generate new analytical reports based on complete case statistics
- Reduced maintenance costs
- Potential for future development and integration of promotional messaging
