Case Study
For one of the largest logistics centers in Sofia, we delivered a Building Management System (BMS) that integrates with the facility’s technical systems and provides a single point of control for all equipment.
Background
For an already established logistics center, it was necessary to upgrade and interconnect the existing technical systems, providing centralized monitoring and control. The integration covered the fire alarm and fire suppression systems, electrical installation, elevators, heating system, and server rooms, ensuring full access to all relevant information for the site’s security staff.
Solution
We implemented a Siemens Simatic automation system based on a Profibus DP industrial network, interconnecting all buildings and their equipment within a distributed Simatic architecture. To facilitate operation by non-specialized staff, we developed a customized SCADA system that visualizes all data from the controlled systems and enables quick and easy response by the operators.
Challenges
- Working on an existing infrastructure not included in the original project plan
- Inter-building network spanning over 1,200 meters
- Integration with systems from multiple manufacturers
- Requirement for easy operation by non-specialized staff
- Tight implementation timeline
Effects
- Achieved all objectives without the need to replace existing equipment
- Built an open system with the flexibility for easy future expansion
- Met all regulatory requirements within tight deadlines
- Enabled system operation by the existing security personnel
